First Grade: December 4 - 8, 2023

Hello, First Grade Families,

These cooler last weeks of fall have been filled with creativity in the First Grade class. A favorite activity with the children was creating salt dough ornaments. Each child took a turn mixing, kneading, and rolling the dough. Then,  they each cut their dough stars and hearts. This week, we will complete our ornaments by painting them. Another favorite craft was creating snowflake paintings by adding salt onto our paper before painting. This created a beautiful crystal effect on the paper.

On Saint Nicholas Day, the children were surprised to find wooden gnomes and bells in their shoes after they returned from Spanish class. This year, the children have heard a story about a gnome who lives in the school and likes to play tricks by turning out the lights in the hallways. The children decided the gift must have come from the gnome, and they enjoyed painting their wooden gnome in the way they imagined him to look.

Last week, we concluded our study of the consonants with the letters F, Y, and Z, and this week we are beginning our second Math Block. In this block, we will introduce addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
