First Grade: April 10-14, 2023

 Hello First Grade Families,

We had a good week together and kept busy with more division lessons.  We used division charts and practiced division equations using the 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s.  When we introduced each chart, three, four, or five students volunteered to help and divided gems accordingly giving all a more hands-on and visual approach to the problems.  The students are grasping the concept of division as the process of sharing out an equal amount of gems and are applying the concept correctly to new math facts.

Next week we will wrap up our math block and start a new language block.  We will integrate our class play practice into this language block by writing sentences that correlate to our play.  Practicing together helps to build the social strength of our class along with further developing academic skills and having lots of fun, too.

It was nice to have everyone back after what was hopefully a fun and restful Spring Break.  Your students are learning a lot of new information and practicing at home is so beneficial.  So, please remember to practice math facts, reading, and spelling in addition to practicing for the play.  Understanding that you care about and are invested in their academic progress greatly increases a child’s overall interest in and success at school!

Reminders:

Now that the weather is warming, please equip your child with sun hats, insect repellent, and water shoes. Creekcess will begin soon and students may only go in the water if they have hard-soled, closed-toed shoes for the creek.
