Kindergarten Turtles: October 1 - 4, 2024

Greetings, Turtle Families,

The fall weather was refreshing this week. We had cool mornings and warm afternoons. We are trying to fit in a few more trips to the creek before the weather gets too cold.  We visited the creek on Wednesday and played on the shore. In our class and at the creek, we saw the changes the big storms have made to our forest environment.  Some large stumps and many of our class borders had been washed away.  The children helped to collect limbs to place new borders in the classroom. At the creek, a fallen tree, one which the children (and teachers) like to climb and sit on, was in a whole new place. We also saw many animal tracks in the sand – deer, coyote, and raccoon, oh my!

Thank you to the Sixth & Seventh Grade students!  As part of their Middle Ages Block, the Sixth and Seventh Grade students completed community service for our school as part of their Knighting Project, they built and installed a sandbox in our class.  Ki Derek delivered the sand on Thursday.  This new feature is already a favorite place to play! We are fortunate to have older students who work hard to provide something so nice for our kindergarteners.

It is apple picking season, and our story, How the Apple Got Its Star, is about a Great Apple Tree who loves to look at the stars at night. The Star Fairy places a star deep inside each apple on the Great Apple Tree’s branches. To complement this lovely story, we cut open an apple to find the star hidden inside. Next week, we will make apple prints using apples and paint.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Caspian’s 6th birthday.  His parents visited our class and shared fun memories from his birth and each year of his life.  Classmates, Teachers, and Caspian’s parents shared a wish for the coming year.  Happy Birthday, Caspian!
