Hello, First Grade Families,

Last week, we began our third Math Block with an interactive adventure story. In the story, the four process gnomes, Percival Plus, Moria Minus, Tamara Times, and Duke Divide, journey on a quest to defeat a dragon and restore numerical order to the kingdom. In the story, the children solve math riddles to advance the adventure and gain tools to use along the journey. This week, they solved the riddle of the three bird cages using addition and gained an abacus. They then found a treasure map after solving the twisted hallway problem using multiplication.

We also began work on our auction project. The children loved having family members come in to help with the project, and the mosaic tiles are beautiful. Thank you to everyone who came and participated! We are so excited to have our finished project ready for everyone to bid on, which, in turn, benefits our beautiful school.

This week, we will continue working with the four processes with a focus on subtraction and division. Our adventure story will take us into an enchanted forest where we will solve an odd and even riddle and practice counting to 120. We will also celebrate Forest and Lily’s birthdays this week.

Dress for the weather with layers and send in full rain gear daily (raincoat, rain pants, and boots)
If your child is feeling under the weather, please keep them home to help keep our community healthy.
