Kindergarten Chickadees: May 6 - 10, 2024

Osiyo, Chickadee Families,

Thank you for an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week!  Each of the days organized by our school families was lovely and incredible. We truly felt the love and appreciation. The notes from families were heartwarming and beautiful. We are so thankful for you all!

It is hard to believe we are already in our final week of the school year. Last week, the students enjoyed time at the creek, building obstacle courses, and observing the wildlife in our school’s forest. The children had the opportunity to watch a Barred owl hop from tree to tree around our classroom as it was followed by a couple of loud blue jays. The students saw a rat snake outside our classroom boundary and watched from a distance as it climbed a tree. They also saw several blue-tailed skinks running around the rocks near the building. At the creek, students found clay, and they enjoyed digging it out from the sand and using it in different combinations with sand and mud to build structures.

The Chickadee students also spent some time indoors, finishing their spring semester painting and drawing books. On Thursday, stormy weather allowed the class to engage in some different indoor activities, such as creating with homemade play dough and gems, playing games, and putting together puzzles. The children also learned how to play the game Hi-Ho-Cherry, Oh!  This young children’s board game can be played competitively or cooperatively. It builds number recognition and counting skills, as well as the ability to take turns, use a pincer grasp, and manage minor disappointments when they do not spin the number they want.
