Kindergarten: January 21 - 24

Greetings Forestgarten Families!

Old Man Winter visited us this week, leaving glistening pieces of ice in his trail. The students enjoyed breaking apart the ice and collecting it in buckets. We are still holding out hope for snow flurries amidst all the rain showers. However, there were no complaints from the students about the mud puddles. Boots were stomping and muddy water was flying as they navigated through the swampy forest.

In our circle, we are woodsfolk sawing and chopping trees. See below if you’d like to learn!

We are woodsfolk sawing trees

Sawing, sawing, sawing trees

We don’t stop for winter weather

We keep sawing all together

We are woodsfolk sawing trees

Sawing, sawing, sawing trees

The tree falls down with a great big crash

Now it’s time to take our ax

We chop and chop with all our might

To make some wood for the fire tonight

Now we carry our logs along

Singing gaily this merry-a-song

Tra la la la la la la, Tra la la la la la la

We are working, working hard

Chopping firewood in our yard

Hold the chopper, hold it tight

Lift it high with all your might

Chopping, chopping, chop chop chop

Merrily the pieces drop

It’s the finest game we know

It makes us warm from head to toe

Now a bundle we will tie

We’ll put it in the shed to dry

Chopping, chopping, chop chop chop

Merrily the pieces drop!

When temperatures were below freezing, we took a break from the forest and played inside. We chopped vegetables for another steaming hot pot of veggie soup, ate warm oatmeal porridge with honey and fresh baked bread with apple butter. We spent a lot of time finger knitting and finger chaining and we started using sewing needles for the first time, which was a huge success. The students are stringing beads and trinkets with large sewing needles to create a piece of artwork for our classroom.

Our story this week was about a young boy who, upon fetching flour for his mother, encountered the North Wind in a quite unfortunate matter. Three times the boy went to the store room for flour and each time the North Wind blew it right out of his hands. He searched for the North Wind and when he finally found him he demanded his flour back. The North Wind did not have any flour to give but he did have a magic cloth, a goat that gave gold coins and a cudgel. Ask your Forestgartener how each of these three things played into the story. Remind them not to leave out the silly ending!

We celebrated dear Walter’s birthday as he took his fifth trip around the sun and sweet Nina’s half birthday, as she turned 5 this past summer. We enjoyed fun memories and sweet treats from both families. Happy Birthday Nina and Walle!!

Thank you for dropping off your children within the drop off window this past week. We have been successful at starting our morning circle at 8:45, which allows a strong and smooth start to our day.

Important Reminders: Please remember to sign up for a conference in February! Look for the Sign-up Genius in the Monday Messenger.
