Kindergarten: March 23 - 27

Dear parents,

Hope this message finds you and your families well as we come into the third week of our virtual classroom. We hope the activities are taking you outside and allowing you to have some fun and get creative with the children!

For our creative and practical work this week, Ki Amy brought us some great activities. The creative work included finding sticks outside to make a frame, while creating a work of art using nature to place inside it. Has your child tried it yet? We would love to see pictures. Our practical work for this week included chopping vegetables and/or hammering nails- the children absolutely love these activities at school and they take this work very seriously. The days are getting warmer, why not have them help you prepare a nice fruit salad and enjoy it in the yard? On days when it’s not raining, we’ve been picnicing in our yard and we saw our neighbors doing it too!

Another activity we brought to you this week is a Spring scavenger hunt. It’s a good reason to get outside and fun for the children to look for the touches of Spring. We also suggested going for a Neighborhood cleanup walk. While many parks are closed, we see a lot of people walking around the neighborhood, so why not pick up trash while we’re at it? The children love picking up discarded materials they find in the forest and garden and taking care of our mother earth.

Ki Holly alo gave us ideas for some delicious snack time ideas with homemade corn tortillas and funny food faces.

We also provided two links which will help you assist your child in finger knitting, this is a great fine motor activity that assists in making connections between the left and right side of the brain, developing their coordination and laying the foundation for knitting in first grade.

In our story this week, the children got to hear about the adventure of Molly Mae and her mischievous pet goat Tomkins! I’m so happy to hear the children have enjoyed listening to the stories. We’ve also provided two other stories that you may enjoy reading to your children at some point.

In Mandarin this week, the children reviewed the body parts and learned two tigers songs, and Ki Cerina encouraged them to play the body parts games which they usually have a lot of fun with.

In Spanish, Ki Paulyna shared with kindy our Spanish hello and goodbye songs, as well as a song about the sun “Sol Sollecito” and one of their favorites, “Los Pollitos Dicen”.

Ki Emily also posted some ASL songs that the children love to sing and sign, see if they can walk you through it.

We also provided a few calming yoga positions for the children, accompanied by affirming words.

Thank you for all that you do and may you have a nice week ahead!

Quiet I bear within me,

I bear within myself

Forces to make me strong.

Now will I be imbued

with their glowing warmth.

Now will I fill myself

With my own will’s resolve.

And I will feel the quiet

Pouring through all my being

When by my steadfast striving

I become strong

To find within myself

the source of strength

The strength of inner quiet.
