Kindergarten: April 20 - 24

Dear parents,

This week the children heard a story about a little gnome who couldn’t understand why he couldn’t leave his little tree-root home, but mother tree assured his heart that one day he will be free again to run and play in the forest with his friends. We also included two favorite stories that the children will enjoy revisiting, “The Little Red Hen” and “The Enormous turnip”.

This week our practical work involved growing vegetables from food scraps. There are surprisingly a lot of vegetables that will grow from scraps that you might otherwise compost. We included our school song to go along with the activity. We love to accompany our work with song, it brings a sense of joy and reverence to what we do. Another practical work that the children love is crayon cleaning, the children love this work and watching the crayon become clean and polished by their own hands. For our creative work, we offered directions to wax crayon window art. The result will be beautiful when the sun shines through the window in your home.

Another great activity that will encourage your child to spend some time outside and explore is the nature bracelets craft. It doesn’t require a lot of materials and can make a beautiful piece of natural jewelry for your child to wear in the spirit of Spring. We also provided a guide to identifying edible plants that could be found in your backyard. It would be a great activity to print out and take with you on a walk around the neighborhood or even in your own backyard. We also posted a few Springtime yoga activities with pictures that children could enjoy doing inside or outside.

If you’re looking for a delicious treat or something that will make your home smell wonderfully good, look for the basic sourdough bread or french bread pizza recipes that we posted. We also shared some bread baking verses and simple directions to making homemade butter to spread over your warm homemade bread.

Please post pictures of your child’s work or activity in the google classroom or email it to one of the teachers so that we can see what they’re doing and post it in the Monday Messenger!

Thank you all for your continued support and everything that you do.

 May there reign here spirit-strength in love;

may there work here spirit-light in goodness;

born from certainty of heart,

and from steadfastness of soul,

so that we may bring to young

human beings

bodily strength for work,

inward-ness of soul, and clarity of spirit.

May this place be consecrated to such a task;

may young minds and hearts here

find servers of the light,

endowed with strength,

who will guard and cherish them.
