Kindergarten: May 4 - 8

Dear parents,

Last week for our creative work we shared instructions on how to make homemade air dry clay and included instructions on how to make a nature mobile with the clay, the result is a beautiful hanging piece that displays items your child can find from nature. We’ve also shared instructions for a leaf rubbing craft that can be made into a banner or little booklet.

For our practical work, we shared a couple examples of a clean up chart that we have found very useful inside the classroom, this can be a fun way to assign clean up tasks which we accompany with a song that is also included.

Our outdoor activity involves water this week and it’s a fun guessing game for the children- they find things in nature and try to guess whether it will sink or float in the water. Another outdoor activity we revisited this past week is growing fruits and vegetables from food scraps. Some of the fruits and vegetables we’ve included instructions for: celery, garlic, green onions, peppers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, strawberries, tomatoes, pineapples. Ki Holly also shared with us a picture of her baby avocado tree that she planted using a scrap avocado pit.

Another outdoor activity we shared is the homemade bird feeder that can be constructed using recycled materials from around the house. The children loved making bird feeders using pinecones and hanging them around the forest at school. Let them try something new and enjoy watching the birds come and feed from their creation.

We also provided a recipe for no bake energy bites, they’re a wonderful snack for the kids and they can even help in the preparation.

This past week Ki Amy shared a story with us called, “The April Shower Fairies” by Suzanne Down. It’s a sweet Spring tale of a boy who connects to the nature beings around him. As the rain fell pitter patter, Sam felt as though it was calling to him so he put on his boots and stepped outside into the rainy day. As he followed the sound of the pitter patter, Sam met a rain child and together they explored the colorful Spring world around them.

We also shared a couple comforting and therapeutic stories that you can read to your child.

Be well and thank you for all that you do.

May our feeling penetrate into the center of our heart

and seek in love to unite itself with human beings

sharing the same goals and with spirit beings,

who bearing grace and strengthening us from realms of light

and illuminating our love

are gazing down upon our earnest, heartfelt striving.
