Kindergarten River Otters: September 20 - 24

Osiyo River Otter families!

It was wonderful to see so many sweet, smiling faces during our live virtual class each day this week. I appreciate how difficult it can be to arrange for your children to attend these classes, and that virtual class is much different from in person class. As always, it was a joy to teach each of the students, and while we missed our friends who were not able to attend, we understand and trust each family’s choices for their children during our remote learning experiences. I am excited to see everyone back in person after fall break!

This week we held our morning circle, shared a story, and did arts and crafts while chatting with each other. Our story this week was The Little Gnome Who Had to Stay Home. This sweet story is about a little gnome who is confused about why he has to stay in his tree roots home and not roam as he loves to do, or play with friends in the forest. The gnome enjoys seeing many things out his window, however he still grows impatient. Mother Tree whispers a song to little gnome “things are not as they used to be, but trust me, soon you will be free, trust me, trust me”. Little Gnome knows he can trust Mother Tree and feels comforted and reassured. He finds many fun things to do at home while he waits, and he knows that soon he will be free to roam and play with his friends in the forest again.

Announcements and Reminders:

  • This week (9/27-10/1) is fall break; there is no school.

  • When we return to school we will likely continue to see cooler mornings and warmer afternoons. Dressing your child in layers (or sending layers if they do not want to start out wearing them) is important. The forest is cooler than other areas and students will feel cold in the mornings if they do not have a jacket or sweatshirt, and pants.

Thank you so much for sharing your children with us, and for being part of our community.

Gvyalieliga,

Ki Holly
