Osiyo (hello), River Otter families!
What a wonderful first week of school. Much thanks to you, and your children, for making it special and fun. My favorite part of the week was hearing the children’s excitement about new friends they have made already. The students enjoyed a variety of play opportunities this week. We had active play on the climbing dome, in the mud kitchen, and digging with tools. We also had quiet play on our new amazing platform with dolls, crafting supplies, or paper and crayons. Digging holes with shovels, making soup and desserts with pots and pans, coloring, and caring for our “babies” have been some favorite activities so far.
The River Otter class had their first Spanish class with Ki Maria on Thursday and enjoyed watching a puppet show in Spanish about how the language came to the Americas. Next week we will begin learning greetings and a song in Spanish. We will also begin painting and creek play next week. This week’s story, which will continue next week due to the shorter weeks, was a fun story about Bear and Goldichild, similar to Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but in reverse. We are learning our snack and lunch blessings, which give us a brief moment to reflect on our thankfulness for our food and the world around us. Below are the words to our snack time blessing (returning families may recognize the words, however this year it is a sweet song instead of a spoken verse. The last line only is spoken).
Blessings on the blossoms
Blessings on the fruits
Blessings on the leaves and stems
Blessings on the roots
Thank you for our food and friends.
