First Grade: January 9-13, 2023

Hello First Grade Families,

Everyone is settling in nicely after the holidays, happy to be at school again.  It's good to have everyone back learning and playing together.

Last week our class continued our math block and did a lot of addition practice. We used dice as one of the ways to help us practice.   Using dice gives us random numbers so we get a variety of easy math and more challenging math. We also split into two teams and had a relay race with math problems on the board. The students enjoyed the relay games, and it was fun to watch them have fun while learning new skills.  Finally, we introduced subtraction, and the class did really well working on this concept.

Next week, we will be starting our third language block.  We will hear more stories during class.  Hearing stories engages children’s imaginations and strengthens their inner picturing capabilities.  Rather than being shown an image and being “told” how someone or something looks, a child will picture scenes in a way that is healthiest for them. Through these stories, the students will learn more spelling and reading rules.  Additionally, we will play games, go on adventures, and engage with exciting new ways to help us relate to the material.

Mark the date:  February 4th is our All School meeting, please see the Main Messenger for more information . This is an event for our entire community and all families are asked to attend. We share in a soup bar, compliments of our faculty and staff, and focus on the State of the School. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us!
