Kindergarten River Otters: February 13 - 17

Osiyo, River Otter families,

It was wonderful to see you all at our conferences! This week we wrapped up our late winter morning circle. When we return from break, we will have a new circle for early spring!  The main part of our last circle was a beautiful verse and singing game created by one of my mentors. This game is about inclusiveness and community and honors the work and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The words to the verse before and after the game are:

I had a dream, and this is what I saw

We lived in a house that was big enough for all

Where you could be you, and I could be me

Side by side living joyously

I had a dream, and this is what I saw

We lived in a house that was big enough for all

Brothers and sisters and all kinds of friends

Side by side from beginning to end

I had a dream, and this is what I saw

We lived in a house that was big enough for all

Where you could be you, and I could be me

What kind of house could that be?

We had the opportunity to try many different practical and creative work projects this week. We hammered nails, sanded wood blocks, finger-chained necklaces, and wrapped sticks neatly in yarn to create different tools and decorations. We also had a special visit from Mr. Matan and watched him work on making a spoon from a block of wood. Students received a piece of wood from Mr. Matan and were fascinated by his woodworking. They are excited to try it when they get older!
