Kindergarten River Otters: March 6-10, 2023

Osiyo, River Otter families.

We have had so much fun adventuring in the forest this week! We have a few different types of forts being built and have taken a couple of trips to a big stick pile in the woods to select new building materials to bring back with us. One day, while looking for fort sticks, we found a football in the woods!  The students have really enjoyed playing catch and running and diving for the ball. This is a great way for them to get proprioceptive and vestibular sensory input while also building gross motor and hand-eye coordination skills. Several students also drew treasure maps and worked together to follow them throughout our forest classroom area, looking for buried treasure.

We enjoyed time at the farm and took turns holding our very friendly chicken named Butterscotch. In our classroom garden, our plants from the autumn are really starting to grow! The cabbage, collards, and kale are growing tall, and the mint, lemon balm, and chamomile are all coming back after the cold and heavy rains from the winter. We will soon enjoy herbal tea made from our own garden, and greens we grew in our soup. We will also start peas from seeds in the next week or so, and when they are big enough we will plant them in a bed in the big garden.
