Osiyo, River Otter families.
We enjoyed a week of creating and playing at school this week. Students continued working on their digging project, making a waterfall into the deep hole the students dug at the back of our play area. They gathered different size sticks and branches from other parts of the forest to continue building different types of forts and started decorating them with other items they found in nature. We are working on sanding different-sized pieces of wood until they are very smooth. Once this work is done, we will seal them with beeswax and add them to our platform block basket. Students also sewed projects of their choosing, including pockets, dolls, and pillows. We also painted with all three colors this week, as Tippy, our paintbrush, had an adventure with yellow in the sunshine and daffodils, blue in the clear sky and pond, and red in the roses and poppies.
Last week we finished a funny folk tale from Italy about a boy who received a donkey that laid golden coins, a tablecloth that made delicious food, and a stick that chased the innkeeper who had taken his other gifts. The students enjoyed the story very much, and last Friday we acted it out as a play. Students took turns acting out the different characters as the teacher told the story, and some students really had fun getting into characters and acting out their parts! This week we started the fairy tale The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The students are enjoying this story as much as the last, and some have mentioned having heard it before. Next week, students will have the opportunity to decide whether they would like to have a puppet show of the story or act it out as a play.
