First Grade: January 8 - 12, 2024

Hello, First Grade Families,

It has been lovely to see all of the happy faces return after our time away in December. The children all seem so much older and taller upon our return to school and as we enter the second half of the school year!

Last week, we continued our math block. We revisited the four processes with the help of our math gnomes: Percival Plus, Moria Minus, Tamara Times, and Duke Divide. The children worked hard to solve new equations each day. On Thursday, we enjoyed the beautiful weather by going on a scavenger hunt around the school. We visited the farm, the creek, our fire pit, and the dome. The children loved working together to find the different clues and solve the equations at each location.

Last week also brought some stormy days, and the children thrived indoors. On Tuesday, the children created a stormy day and a rainy day painting. For the stormy day painting, we used only blue paint and enjoyed experimenting with adding more layers of blue in certain areas to create different shades. The children also created a giant board game during indoor playtime. The children created individual games first, then they put all of their games together to create a game that nearly fills our classroom!

Finally, on Sunday, Mary turned 7-years-old! Mary is a kind friend, and brings light to our classroom with her beautiful singing and lovely personality. Happy Birthday, Mary!
