Kindergarten River Otters: April 10-14, 2023

Osiyo, River Otter families.

How wonderful to have everyone back from spring break!  The class enjoyed the spring weather and our new spring circle. We finished hearing the story we started before the break, about Eostre, the Germanic goddess of spring, and a magic rabbit.  A little girl found a frozen bird, who had returned before Eostre brought spring to the village. The girl’s love for the bird convinced the goddess to save it, and though she could not return it to life as a bird, she transformed it into a bunny that would live forever. The magic bunny could not stay on Earth, so Eostre made a home on the moon. The girl and bunny loved each other so much, Eostre agreed to allow the bunny to return once a year when she came to bring spring to the village. The bunny could play in the forest, check on the girl, and leave her a gift each year. Because the magic bunny used to be a bird, it left special rainbow eggs in the forest for the girl, and as she grew older, for her children and grandchildren. And if things have not changed, they are still the same today. On Friday (or Thursday for two-day students), students found a special surprise in their wheatgrass, which they were able to take home with them.

An extra big thank you to the families who have been hard at work planning, gathering, building, and sewing for our amazing auction project. We are so excited about this project! On Tuesday and Wednesday, students painted the peg dolls that will go with the beautiful houses. This activity took more targeted fine motor control than our usual painting, as we used smaller paint brushes and worked to cover the smaller, cylindrical areas of the doll bodies. Students were excited to be part of the auction project and proud that they each contributed to this special set.
